June Blooms
Summer’s brutal heat here in north-central Arizona, plus thick smoke from nearby wildfires, has held us captive inside for several weeks. I’ve used the time to complete more “honey do’s”, and I’m still waiting to hear from online literary journals (who pay authors) for two of my short stories.
What do I chat about in this blog post?
-
- My first anthology book project
- Links to my newest works published in literary journals
- My thoughts on third-party platforms
- Hints about future plans/projects
Book Project: New Anthology of Haiku Verses
I’m excited to start working on (and finish this year!) my first self published book of haiku verses, “Changing of the Seasons”.
I have much to learn about being an indie author and selling books (that’s an understatement), and I’ll blog about my publishing journey over at my business website RidgeViewMedia.com – follow me there!
New Publications
As I write this on June 29, 2021, I’m smiling because literary journals have published two of my works on the same day: a 50-word story and a free verse poem:
Revival, Fifty Word Stories (2021 June 29) – story behind this story
Clouds, free verse, Spillwords Press (29 June 2021) – My fun story behind this verse
Please click the Like or the Heart icons on each of these works. The editors do watch the number of “votes” my works receive, and they provide additional recognition to the most popular pieces.
And here are a few more new works:
Into the Storm – Free verse published by Lost Pen Publishing (RIP)
Monsoon – Haiku self published here
Storytelling in Screenwriting – Blog Post – published on RidgeViewMeda.com
Journals have published a few more of my works the first half of this year in addition to the two above. You can find them listed on my Publications page. Enjoy!
My Thoughts on Third Party Platforms
Several of my fellow authors publish their works on Medium, while those who left that platform are now publishing their works on Substack. I left Medium in August 2020, and I don’t currently have a presence on Substack.
Why? Three simple words: Terms of Service.
Third party platforms have more “ownership” of my works than I care for them to have, and I’m choosing to work harder to build my audience while maintaining more control over my intellectual property.
In future blog posts, I’ll chat about how you can join me in building my community. In the meantime, I have two easy ways you can participate:
-
- Write a comment on my blog posts, my stories, and poems
- Subscribe to join Jenise’s Journey and receive my occasional Newsletter plus a free gift
Thank you! 🙂
Future Plans, Projects
Finally, behind the scenes and offline, Mark (my husband) and I have projects lined up to move us both forward in our individual creative endeavors.
As Mark says, “It’s better to move forward because if you move backwards you might bang into something and hurt yourself.” 😀
We’ll work on photography projects together. Then, I’ll press ahead with new writing and publishing projects while he paints new fine art pieces in water media.
