Poems from the Heart | Poemas del corazón

Mourning dove
singing softly in dawn’s light
breathes deep for life.

Setting September sun
paints the twilight clouds
in the final colors of summer.

Babbling brook
running down the hillside
has time to talk to stones.

Distant chant of prayers
draws closed earth’s curtain,
opens the gates of heaven.

~~~~~~
Paloma triste
Cantando suave en la luz del amanecer
Respira profundo para la vida.
El sol de septiembre que se acuesta
Pinta las nubes crepúsculares
En los últimos colores del verano.
Arroyo charlatán
Que fluye de la ladera
Tiene tiempo para hablar con las piedras.
Canto lejano de oraciones
Cierra la cortina de la tierra,
Abre las puertas del paraíso.
The Story Behind this Verse
I searched for an online journal to publish my bilingual free verse poem that I wrote when I was 14 years old. The search results didn’t provide what I needed, and I had just created my account on Medium. So….
Why not self publish this poem? I did, on April 22, 2019, on my shiny new Medium.com account. As of August 31, 2020, I removed all of my works on Medium after they changed their Terms of Service. Now, this poem lives on the beautiful online literary journal, Spillwords Press.
I hope you enjoy this free verse, and feel free to share it with others.
