The Story Behind this Haiku

I confess, I’m a night owl and not a morning glory. When winter’s long, dark nights hold back the bright morning sun a few hours more than in spring or summer, I don’t want to wake up. My early morning meditation time begins in darkness when I’d rather enjoy dawn’s light.

I’m changing my perspective. When my alarm on my phone goes off, after a couple of “Snoozes”, I go to one of our east-facing windows. I watch as dawn’s light overcomes night’s darkness. This beautiful sight awakens hope in me, and that hope morphs into abundant joy as I begin my meditation time.
