The County’s Prodigal

The Sheriff’s son. Yeah, that’s me. He rides me harder than that bronc he loves. I hate horses and this rural county. So I lie on the sidewalks and hug my bottles. Damn those blinding, flashing lights.

“Officer? Let me be.”

“Get up, son. I love you. Let’s go home.”

The Story Behind This Story

One of the challenges with writing 50-word flash fiction is creating the twist, the surprise ending. I’m still working on this and hope to write stories as wonderful as those I read online.

This flash story is inspired by a couple of true events I had read about online. Just because one is a chief of police or a county Sheriff does not mean family members are in good shape and not in trouble with the law.

Thank you for supporting my writing, and feel free to share my works with those who you think would enjoy them.
