Writing and Photography Blogs: Delia Talent

The Intersection of Writing and Photography

Last Thursday, a beautiful gift appeared from one of the members I know on Scribophile. Delia Talent (alias), one of my online friends (on “Scrib” and on YouVersion) and my sister in Christ, tweeted a link to her newest blog post. It features one of my free photo images that resides on Pixabay.com

I love these words she wrote:

“For me, this picture represents security and victory in Christ, grace, peace, comfort, hope…so many things.”

Please visit her blog post here (15 March 2018):

Encouragement for Creatives

Delia responded to a thread I started in Scribophile’s group Christian Writers Circle where I shared my photo of the risen Christ, a bronze statue that stands at the end of a meditation trail (the Stations of the Cross) at The Shrine of St. Joseph of the Mountains in Yarnell, Arizona. I shared the photo with the members of the group in advance of Easter as a free gift to my fellow writers.

Delia and I exchanged a few posts and private messages on “Scrib”. When she told me about her blog post, and after I read it, her encouragement filled my heart with joy. Delia sees it as her mission to encourage creative people, and creative Christians in particular. What a wonderful heart she has!

Writing and Photography: A Purpose

Last year, I wrote a post about author and blogger Norma Gail Holtman’s use of this same photo in her Easter message (select link to visit my post). I appreciated her donation, but that’s not the purpose of why I share this photo for free.

I want people to know about the Shrine and the little town of Yarnell, Arizona, and encourage people to visit the area.

It was there that our community lost 19 of the 20 Granite Mountain Hotshots, Crew 7, on June 30, 2013, during the Yarnell Hill Fire.

I took this photo during January 2012, a year-and-a-half before the Yarnell Hill Fire. The fire destroyed many of the Shrine’s retreat center buildings, and scorched some of the wooden crosses and foliage on the meditation trail. However, all of the cement statues of Christ survived the fire and the trail is in good shape. Thank you, wildland fire fighters, for fighting hard to save the Shrine.

The next time you visit Phoenix, Arizona, please take a day and drive up highway 89 and the Weaver Mountains to visit Yarnell and the Shrine of St. Joseph of the Mountains. If you feel led, please make a donation you can afford to the rebuilding efforts for the retreat center. And, either as you drive up or down highway 89, if you have time, take a moment to honor the memory of our Granite Mountain Hotshots at our state park.

I love it when photography and writing come together, intersect, to encourage others in ways that surprise and delight us. I’m grateful for the new friends the practice of these skills gives me, and for the time and opportunity to improve them, one day at a time.

It thrills my heart that this photo encourages people. You can find it for free at my account on Pixabay:
