Peaceful places where my heart
can restfully lie down
among the lacy curtains that
my soul crochets with peace.
The green, soft hill will melt away
when fluffy castles fly,
and welcome me to come along
to leave the world behind.
And now the sun is sinking
into a sleeping sea.
Tomorrow I’ll be softly
dreaming of peaceful things.

The Story Behind this Verse
Note: I'm sad to say that Mojave Heart Review is no longer with us, RIP. It was a beautiful journal I cherished and I miss it. I've deleted the links and kept the joy-filled text of my original blog post. UPDATE: On 29 June 2021, Spillwords Press gave "Clouds" a new home!
April Fools!
I’m happy to say it’s no April Fool’s Day joke. My poem “Clouds” was published today, April 1, 2019, by Mojave He[art] Review, in their Issue #12.
A Special Verse to Me
There is a back story to this poem. I wrote it when I was 14 years old. Many decades later, I sit here with vivid memories of that teen Jenise as she sat in her bedroom composing this poem. She had spent time outdoors, lying on her back in the grass, gazing up at the puffy clouds above her. Her imagination soared! 🙂
Some months ago, I found my creative-writing journal from my teen years. I posted my poems to my online writers community, Scribophile, for critique feedback, and I made minor edits to this poem before I submitted it for publication.
I’m glad it now lives online for readers to enjoy.
