New Year Greetings
It’s January 1, 2022, and once again I hesitated to put the word “Happy” in the title of this blog post. For many people, 2021—similar to 2020—was not a happy year. Once again, many experienced a year filled with grief due to the loss of loved ones or the loss of a job. If that was your 2021, please accept my hugs and my prayers. I acknowledge your sadness as I have felt it as well for those I know.
For me, 2021 provided important and good gifts. It gave my husband and me relief from a huge burden. We also gained new insight on ourselves which enriched our relationship. I continue to grow in wisdom, and as an imperfect Christ follower, I grew a bit closer to Him this past year, which blessed me in many ways.
Publishing News
On December 31st, one of my favorite online journals, Spillwords Press, published my flash fiction story “Just the Right Touch”. It’s a happy story and one of Mark’s favorites.
I had “shopped” this story to several paying journals for over a year. My writing colleagues had critiqued it, I made revisions, and I felt confident I could earn a few dollars from this story.
Nope. Didn’t happen.
Journals are flooded with submissions because of COVID, and people staying home or working from home. These folks had extra time to write and submit stories, which increased the competition for space in the journals.
Spillwords Press doesn’t pay funds to writers, but they support us by heavily promoting us on social media and on their beautiful online journal. The editors have been very good to me over the years, and I’m glad they gave my family-friendly, positive story a home.

Moving Forward
For 2022, I’m not making resolutions for my creative projects because “life happens” and things change. Instead, I’ll announce my accomplishments when they happen, so you and I can celebrate together.
