The Story Behind the Verse
We had a long, very dry 2020. The drought brought Arizona to its knees, and we feared a brutal, year-long wildfire season. As January rolled on week-by-week, the weather forecast promised us precipitation.
Early this morning, as I looked out the windows and rejoiced in the snowy scene in our community, I saw our neighbor outside, FaceTiming with her husband (who was out of town) to show him the snow in their yard.
Then, I noticed the snow on the branches of their tree and the snowy background provided by their patio awning. To me, it looked like a Japanese painting, and a haiku verse formed in my thoughts.
