Death, darkness, dead I
walk toward You in the light, I
see you, Breath of Life.

The Story Behind this Haiku
I love time zone differences and collaborating with Ozzies and Kiwis (folks in Australia and New Zealand). While they’re awake and productive, I’m sawing logs (Zzzz) on top of my pillow.
One morning, I woke up early and checked my email. Deborah Christensen, Editor of House of Haiku on Medium.com, had sent an email to a slew of us haiku composers about this week’s prompt. The prompt word is “death”.
Oh boy! I thought to myself. Let’s see if I can come up with something positive about a sad, heart breaking, and dark subject.
My faith holds fast to hope and eternal life after death, but could I express this in three lines with a syllabic count of 5, 7, 5? Was I up for the challenge before making coffee? Yes!
