Pink and red again
caress the summer sunset
melting dusk to night.

The Story Behind this Haiku
Some members of my online writing community, Scribophile, participate in a long-running discussion thread titled “Haiku Challenge”.
How does the Challenge work? A member, let’s use the name John, writes a haiku verse (usually 5-7-5). The next member, I’ll use the name Jane, takes the last line from John’s verse and uses it as the first line in her/Jane’s verse.
Here’s a real-world example:
For my haiku in this post, “Maggie’s” haiku verse is:
Shaped like viral memes
Soft petals with tiny veins
Pink and red again
Her last line is now the first line in my verse that you read above. 🙂
The “Haiku Challenge” thread keeps me on my toes, makes me think, and I’m often surprised that I come up with a new verse.
The Challenge is fun, and I’m grateful to my fellow “Scribbers” who help me sharpen my skills. They have kept the Challenge thread going for five (5) years! I’m sure it will continue for another half decade.
