A gravestone, a rose
mark the final resting place
of my one, true love.

The Story Behind this Haiku
If you’ve been following some of my haiku verse posts, either here or on my Substack Publication, you’ll remember that I participate in the Haiku Challenge thread in my online writers community Scribophile.com.
To learn more about the Haiku Challenge, read: Sunset Caresses on my website.
The last line of the haiku verse in the thread intrigued me:
“A gravestone, a rose”.
As I sat pondering the words, memories of old folks songs filled my thoughts, Americana (Scots-Irish) folk songs I used to sing while playing my guitar. Many of those songs end with loss and heartache. Life was difficult back in those days.
Your Turn
Does my haiku read like an old, Scots-Irish folk song? Or, how have you processed loss and heartache? Feel free to share your thoughts in the Comments below. Thank you for reading!
