washes over them.

The Story Behind this Haiku
In Memory
And, this was one of the hardest haiku verses I’ve written.
Over the course of recorded history, we humans have written verses to express our grief when we lose someone precious. This haiku verse is my heartbroken memorial to the divers, passengers, and one crew member lost on the dive vessel Conception to a devastating, predawn, onboard fire Monday, September 2, 2019.
Why I Wrote this Verse
As a native, fourth-generation southern Californian whose family spent many happy times in the coastal communities of Santa Barbara and Ventura, this tragedy hits my heart hard. I cannot imagine the depths of grief everyone is experiencing; how devastated the survivors, family members, friends, and colleagues — the coastal souls — feel this week.
Thank you for reading. Come along on my adventures.
