Emotions awake
at the sound of your sweet smile
and the scent of love

The Story Behind this Haiku
I wrote this on August 16, 2022, as my entry in the Haiku Challenge thread on Scribophile.com
(To learn more about the Haiku Challenge, read: Sunset Caresses on my website.)
The last line in Suzy’s verse, “Emotions awake”, woke me up as well to new sensory expressions. “Hmm,” I muttered to myself. “How can I play around with this line?” Haiku encourages poets to be inventive, imaginative, with our five human senses. And, I like where her last line took my imagination.
My last line, “and the scent of love”, brought forth in me some thoughts of a loved one’s skin, how it smells.
Now, before your imagination takes off into NSFW world, read my haiku, again, with the image of a newborn baby in your mind.
Whether enjoying the presence a newborn baby or a lover, my haiku verse mixes up sensory experiences to capture deeply held human emotions. (At least, I hope it does.)
