No Sympathy for the Devil
She haunts the two o’clock morning darkness of Hollywood Boulevard. Sword in hand, helmet strapped on, shield up, breastplate firmly fitted, feet shod with peace. She paces the street, leading teen-aged runaways to the shelter’s welcoming warmth.
Their stories set her heart ablaze.
She holds no sympathy for the devil.

The Story Behind the Story
On 22 November 2019, my 50-word micro flash fiction story, “Spiritual Warrior”, was published by The Friday Fix on Medium.com. (I left the platform August 2020.)
For this story, the prompt came from the song “Sympathy for the Devil” by the Rolling Stones. Those who know me well can imagine how I felt about that song title. For those of you who don’t, read on.
I’m a forgiven, imperfect follower of Jesus Christ, beloved by Him. Growing up in Los Angeles, I often encountered people involved with the occult. Hollywood and all of the entertainment industries (film, music, etc.) did influence those activities.
In my young adult years, I met a couple at my church who ministered to teen runaways at a shelter in downtown Hollywood. The wife told me stories of how the runaways had been trafficked into prostitution, enslaved by drug abuse. She also told me of many victories over demons.
My tiny story is dedicated to the memory of my friends and their colleagues who bravely prayed and fought for the lives of those teenagers.
P. S. – Satan and his demons are real. Jesus saved me out of my adventures into the occult in the nick of time. I have absolutely no sympathy for the devil. May all true Christ followers put on the full armor of God every day.
