Thirteen years old, I sit on the floor, staring at our new TV bought for the occasion.
Large boots descend the ladder.
Lunar surface awaits.
One small step. One giant leap.
I catch my breath.
My heart changed, my imagination quickened, I plan my own small steps toward my dreams.

The Story Behind this Story
50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing
I wrote “Small Steps” in honor of the 1969 Moon Walk. I was twelve years old when this momentous event took place. I’m grateful I was alive to watch it all unfold.
Words cannot describe what I felt as I watched Armstrong and Aldrin walk on the surface of the moon while I sat in our living room. My micro story captures only one of a thousand thoughts I had back then.
One thing I can say now is this: on that July day in 1969, it felt like we (humanity) could do almost anything.
