The witch tempted me with a boiling, unruly potion.
“It’ll transform you, my dear, into your hidden personality.”
Curiosity over-ruled me. I drank. I screamed at the mirror’s reflection.
Red-ruby lips, a nose clear of blemishes, and an eye bright with innocence and wonder.
“What horrid being lives inside me?”

The Story Behind this Story
This story is dedicated to one of my quiet fans, Kayla R. (Hi!!).
I don’t “celebrate” Halloween, but Justin Deming’s seasonal prompt for The Friday Fix was irresistible. When I saw the image, a tiny voice in my writer brain spoke a story idea and I ran with it. It was fun to write, too.
The image prompted me to write the opposite of what the photo seems to convey.
